Leading with Courage
“Leading with Courage” is a problem-based workshop that uses real world situations to provide attendees the opportunity to hone their leadership skills and apply truly courageous leadership methods to solve problems. This course will examine ways in which to incorporate true leadership into everyday situations and by doing so create positive examples and mentoring opportunities with others.
At the end of this interactive training, students will have had the opportunity to explore the challenge of change, identify personal core values, examine top, middle and bottom performers and learn what to do about them. They will also discover overlooked acts of courage, learn to understand the three types of courage and how they apply to the leadership dilemma from line officer through the chain of command.
They will be introduced to the “Paradoxical Commandments for Law Enforcement” and how to use them to create a more positive work experience. Participants will work through the problem-based curriculum and apply classroom material in group exercises including: a leadership challenge currently faced, application of courageous leadership in a tactical exercise, identification and use of personal core values and communicating and confronting issues. Through the progression of problem solving steps, students will begin to see their own critical role in the success of their agency’s mission and learn to be a “Wannabe” leader.
