Barb Harris
As a 30 year law enforcement veteran, Barb has worked in almost every law enforcement capacity and type of agency. Barb completed her degree in Health and Fitness and is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Staff and Command, the FBI’s Law Enforcement Executive Development and the Southwest Command College. She began her career at the Tucson Police Department working as a dispatcher, officer, detective and sergeant; then became the Chief Deputy of the Cass County (MO) Sheriff’s Department in 1994. After relocating to Illinois, Barb worked for the Illinois State Police as an Academy Training Instructor and Community Policing Specialist. After moving back to Arizona, Barb became the Commander and Interim Chief at Pima College DPS (AZ); then retired as an Assistant Chief at the Marana (AZ) PD in 2009.
Barb has been a certified police instructor for over twenty-five years. She currently develops and instructs courses in a broad spectrum of law enforcement topics including Career and Officer Survival for Dispatchers with Betsy Brantner Smith; Recruiting and Retaining Women; Gender Dynamics in the Workplace; Critical Incident Response and Community Policing: Problem Solving and Partnership Building. In addition to law enforcement training, Barb also teaches a private sector personal awareness and tactical course geared towards women called “Prepare to Win” and a dynamic new leadership workshop, “Leading with Courage.”
Barb serves as a technical writer and advisor for Police One Video through their new Police One Academy and consults with BowMac Educational Services.
